SW Calgary Implant Placement Surgery

At All About Family Dental, we will examine several factors before beginning the implant treatment. If you have active gum disease or a weak jawbone, these issues will be addressed before the dental implants are placed. We will discuss any medical history and current medications to ensure we plan your treatment safely and effectively.

Dental implants can be placed using detailed digital x-rays to help ensure you have a beautiful, natural-looking smile again. We will determine exactly where the implant will be placed to promote long-term success. During dental implant placement, your jawbone will be accessed through the gums, in order to secure the implant. Your dentist may give you a removable dental prosthetic to help with stability and appearance of your bite during recovery. Your dental implants will be surgically placed in the jawbone and allowed to heal fully. After your implants have fully healed, which usually takes approximately 6 weeks, we will place your custom dental crowns, bridges, dentures, or All-on-4® restorations.

Pretreatments for Dental Implants

Sometimes, we may need to provide various pretreatments to help you qualify for dental implants, which can be provided in-house for your convenience. These pretreatments can include:

• Tooth Extractions: When possible, we will keep all of your natural teeth and dental structure intact. Sometimes however, removing decayed or damaged teeth is necessary to preserve your dental and overall health. Our dentist can provide gentle extractions and discuss options for you to replace the tooth.
• Bone Graft: If your jawbone is weak, implants will not attach securely to your bone and may become unstable. Bone grafting will increase the density of your jawbone and help it fuse securely to your implants. During this procedure, we supplement the bone in your gums and upper jaw to ensure that your dental implants have enough support to fuse with your jawbone.
• Sinus Lift: A sinus lift is a procedure that allows our dentist to increase the bone density in your upper jaw below the sinuses to make room for dental implants. This allows you to replace upper molars and achieve secure, functional tooth restorations. Depending on the complexity of your needs, we may partner with a local specialist for this procedure.
